I. Introduction
Pre-University Program of LEC, SJTU is a non-degree program designed for international students to enhance their language skills, academic performance, and cultural adaptability. The students can thus lay a solid foundation for their further undergraduate study.
Pre-University Program consists of:
Program A: This program is designed for students who have already reached a good level of Chinese language proficiency (HSK 4≧180 or equivalent) but need remediation of academic subjects of Chinese, English and Mathematics to meet the requirements of SJTU undergraduate admissions.
Program B: This program is suitable for students who possess limited or no Chinese language skills but perform well in other subjects. Students are given intensive Chinese language training. They can also make further progress in English, Mathematics and other subjects to meet the requirements of SJTU undergraduate admissions.
The above program is an extension program, not related to any credit or degree. It is an academic course that is taken by students voluntarily.
II. Eligibility
1. Graduates of senior high school (or above)
2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC " and etc.
3. Students who are physically and mentally healthy
4. Students who are aged between 17 and 23 before registration
III. Curriculum
Program A:
Registration will start in September, 2022 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice). Two semesters in one school year will last for 28 weeks in total with 18 weeks in the first semester and 10 weeks in the second semester.
Program B:
Registration will start in September, 2022 (the specific will be informed on the admission letter). Four semesters in two school years will last for 62 weeks in total with 18 weeks in the first semester, 16 weeks in the second semester, 18 weeks in the third semester and 10 weeks in the fourth semester.
Note:
1.The curriculum is subject to changes according to requirements for further studies as well as students’ academic achievements.
2. All subjects except for English and Chinese are taught in Chinese.
3. Chinese Writing and Chinese Presentation Skills are optional courses for students who are planning to choose liberal arts majors; Physics and Chemistry are for those who are planning to choose science majors; Introduction to Computer Programming and Intelligence is optional for both liberal arts and science students. Students are supposed to take at least 2 of the optional courses above.

Application Materials
1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent (2022 graduating students should provide an official statement from your high school as proof of graduation);
2. School Profile (e.g. Overall Introduction, Admission Requirement, Enrollment Rate, Curriculum, Grading System, University Acceptance of Graduates and etc.)
3. Passport information page (valid for more than 6 months) and photo of the same size as the one in passport
4. Personal statement in Chinese or English (with signature, contents should include but not limited to personal background, hobbies and expertise, reasons for applying the program and study plan);
5. One recommendation letter in Chinese or English (with signature and contact information);
6. Academic certificate (including but not limited to):
6.1 High school official transcripts, including all courses taken.
6.2 Test scores of the national high school graduation exam or college entrance exam in the country or region, such as SAT/ACT/IB/A-level/UEC, etc. If the above test results cannot be obtained at the time of application, an explanation must be provided.
7.Award certificates (if any) and other supportive materials required by SJTU.
Besides, applicants should submit the following documents if they are

HSK examination score report (level 4 or above) or equivalent certificate
9.Applicants under 18 years old (until September 1, 2022) should provide a letter of guarantee signed by their guardian in China (should be notarized by relevant authorities).
10.Applicants whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:
10.1 Certificate of the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth or afterward.
10.2 The nationality or household registration certificate of both the applicant's parents (passport or ID card).
10.3 For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth, ① if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens with permanent residence abroad, certificate of the corresponding permanent residence needs to be provided; ②if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens without permanent residence abroad, certificate of the withdrawal from Chinese nationality of the applicant needs to be provided.
10.4 For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and obtained foreign nationalities afterward, a certificate for the cancellation of their original registered residence in China and the renunciation of the Chinese nationality should be provided.
10.5 The entry and exit seal page of visiting China on the applicant's passport from April 30, 2018 to the time of application.

①If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English shall be provided.
②There is no need to mail hard copies of supporting materials during application.

VII. Application Procedures
1.Visit elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register, register a new account according to the instruction, and then login to the online application system;
2.Complete the application form and submit the application materials according to the instructions in the system;
3.Pay the application fee of CNY 800;
4.The admission decision is based on application material evaluation and integrative test if necessary;
5.The applicant who gets admitted will need to pay the full tuition fee in the application system within time limit;
6.The eligible applicant will receive official admission documents;
7. The Applicant should apply for student visa and come to SJTU to register at the required location within time limit.
VIII. Application Deadline
Fall Semester: August 31, 2022
Spring Semester (For Transferred Student): January 15, 2023
IX. Tuition
Note: The above fees include tuition and undergraduate application guidance fees, excluding textbook fees, insurance fees, accommodation fees and other expenses.
X. Scholarship
Outstanding applicants will be awarded Freshmen Scholarship of 5,000 RMB. More scholarships are provided each semester in accordance with the program policy.
XI. Accommodation and management
The accommodation will be arranged by SJTU on Qibao campus. The specific dormitories are allocated by the school.
Triple / five room 700 yuan / month (water and electricity fee included, public bathroom)
XII. Miscellaneous
The minimum size of Program A/B is 10 students. If the number cannot be reached, the class will be cancelled and the fees will be refunded.
